I have a macBook running 10.4.11, I want to do some IPhone development so I think that I need to upgrade to 10.6. On the apple store there are two products that claim to upgrade you to snow lepard (10.6).

Epic really doesn't seem to care at all. Obviously Mac is their smallest user base (also smallest profit base), why focus on them when you make your money elsewhere? This is a sad state when they have made the game slower with every update rather than improve it. I doubt much of the game is optimised for Mac at all, only PC.
It's possible they wrote the game for PC and just did a straight port to Mac (would explain why it runs horribly on the lowest settings on a 2017 MacBook Pro with 4GB graphics and 16GB RAM).
